Light Battle Rifle - One
LBR-1

Background:

The LBR-1 was the first battle rifle system to be design and built under a short notice for the use of the Military Regiments and Clan Military Houses.

In 2037, the Celtic Federation was using an old outdated Earth Base weapon from the British Military called the SA-90 Battle Rifle. The rifle was a bulky and had an out of date design.  King Macgregor wanted a weapon system that could replace the SA-90. After much discussions with the appointed Royal High Field Marshall and a UCEF Marine Corp Colonel Joshua Allan Wood. The High Field Marshall wanted the Royal Military to use the M61A1 and A2 rifles that the United Colonies of Earth Forces are using. The modern M61 rifles could be issued in a short notice to the newly CFA military and clan house forces. While using the M61 rifle system could be issued in an timely fashion from the Edin Colony to Murbus. This ideal would give the CFA time to design and develop their own system. While M61 would be under a Lend-Lease program.

King Macgregor argued with his Royal High Field Marshall about using any type of weapons from the UCEF. King Macgregor wanted the Royal Regiments to have a weapon system that is made by the Celtic Federation. With Wood's disapproval about making a rifle system in short notice and explaining the issues what could happen. The King already ordered the Royal Engineers to have a rifle concept design and ready for production by the years end of 2038.

As of the Fall, 2038, the 1st line of LBR's were pushed into Production by the Royal Arms Regiment Weapons Factory of New Portale, New Scotland. Over 100,000 Rifles where built and issued to both Scottish and the Irish Regiments on the Main Land and for Island Defense.

Thrown into production and straight into Regimental hands without the proper testing. The issues that the Royal High Field Marshall explain previously where showing themselves with the first batch of LBR-1s.  It had great designed concept, but the CFA Soldiers and Clan House Regiments hated the system. The Rifle develop major issues with Double Feeding, Jams, empty shells gumming up the ejection tube port, The Gas Tube would break under stress, Cracks and breaks on the polymer receiver. What was worse, field teared downs and repairs became close to impossible in certain conditions during battles. Even the light 5.72x45mm bullet was not penetrating.

The system was a nightmare for soldiers and Clan House Regiments. Many Clan Houses would return to the colonies to purchase better weaponry. Many times, soldiers would ditch the LBR while being in battle against Valikov soldiers. Soldiers and Clan House Regiments would capture Valikov weapons and use them in battle.

Even Though this battle system was design from a known rifle used on Earth called the F-2000. This clone counterpart would not be like its past predecessor. The Royal Armory Regiment wanted to build a cheap, reliable rifle that would be easy to use.

They learned that cheap doesn't mean cutting back on materials.  The rifle was known to crack under extreme pressures. The plastic body was far fragile in high temperatures, and in arctic conditions. The Rifle just simply did not want to work.

By Mid-Summer of 2040, production of the LBR-1 came to a abrupt halt under orders by King James Macgregor. Only less then a year of service. Because of this rifle and King Macgregor not listening to his appointed High Royal Field Marshall. Many good royal soldiers have been hurt or even killed in the line of duty do to this rifle.

Even the King made a former apology to his High Field Marshal Joshua Wood. Who was right about putting a rifle into a production with out any proper testing or using people who have knowledge of weaponry.

Clan Macfannon, a family of known arms makers and designers would take the LBR-1 and would start rebuilding this system. The design ideal and concept was great. But it was put into production to soon.

While they were some LBR-1's still in service on the Mainland of Murbus. Many of those rifles would be taken to Clan Macfannon at the island of Bree. These rifles would be called LBR-1R, R being Rebuilt or Redesign. The redesign of the LBR-1R would have a thicker and stronger polymer body. The would replace the issue with the roller block system to a rotating bolt design. Heat treated and harden the bolt and gas piston system. Fix the continuing issues of the double feeding and redesign the barrel. Fixed the empty shell gumming issues in the ejection tube port. And last, replace the cheap silicone rubber buttpad with a much heavier duty styrene-butadiene rubber.

The newly updated LBR-1R went back to service under the Royal Dragoons and recalibered with the 6.3mm. The very same 6.3mm that is used with the Macfannon Rangemaster Rifle. Only 30,000 LBR-1R are in serviced as of 2042, till their end of service by 2045 at Operation Murbus Will.

The replacement of the LBR-1 would be the new Mk-1A ICRS rifle system by 2041.
